Urban exploring was a hobby that used to attract the curious, the respectful, and the misfits with a sense of wonder. Today it attracts the reckless, the destructive, and those desperate to be seen and acknowledged.

Urban Exploring is not what is once was. Its image has been irreparably damaged. Countless explorers don’t even want to be associated with the hobby anymore.

Making cringe short form videos and half-assed photosets with AI generated “historical” write-ups that contain countless inaccurate facts is not what Urban Exploring is about. Crowbarring a small business’s front door the day after it closes is not what Urban Exploring is about. Assaulting property owners and security guards is not what Urban Exploring is about. Evicting unhoused individuals is not what Urban Exploring is about.

We are a lighthouse for those who believe in the core ethic of Urban Exploring:

“Take only photos, leave only footprints”

We are a home for those drawn to the forgotten places and hidden paths. For those who find value in staying in the shadows and out of the limelight.

The Beacon Group is a loose collective of like minded folks who want to keep the old spirit of exploring alive. We are a home to the technical, the weird, the documentarians.
